What’s the key to the Coorong district’s future growth?

The local council wants to know – it’s working on a plan which will guide population growth and business development over the next 25 years.

Locals will get to have their say during the next fortnight at public forums at Tailem Bend, Meningie and Tintinara; or by making an appointment with a council staff member.

The council is also asking business owners to fill out an online survey.

Mayor Paul Simmons said it was important to imagine what the Coorong district might look like in future.

“Where will the towns’ residential and commercial areas have grown, what might our sports and recreational areas look like, what we would need to support high growth?” he asked.

“History tells us the best-prepared are those communities who have a plan.”

The final Coorong growth strategy will guide the council’s decision-making over the coming years, building on the foundation set out in a community vision plan it completed last year.

It will focus most closely on five of the district’s biggest townships: Tailem Bend, Wellington East, Meningie, Coonalpyn and Tintinara.

  • Have your say – individuals: Attend the community drop-in session at Tailem Bend Town Hall next Tuesday, May 3 from 5.30-8pm, or those at Meningie on Wednesday and Tintinara on May 10; or call 8333 7999 to book a 15-minute appointment to discuss your ideas or ask questions.
