The Mobilong Rotary Club has recently hosted a meeting of service clubs at the RSL.
They were joined by members from Murray Bridge and City Lions, Kiwanis, Inner Wheel and Murray Bridge Rotary.
The reports tabled highlighted the diversity of contributions made by the clubs to the wider community.
Needs including domestic violence, shelter bags for the homeless, the support of students participating in Operation Flinders and the training of assistance dogs have been addressed this past year.
In addition, clubs have helped by upgrading Swanport Reserve, supporting the wig library, assisting the hospital in acquiring a lymph scanner and assisting young people with prizes and bursaries.
The examples quoted are a small sample of service club contributions to our society.
Guest speaker for the evening was Senior Constable First Class David Brown.
Senior Constable Brown, who is well known in our community, was congratulated on his recognition as 2025 police officer of the year.
His current role in the district is within the crime prevention unit, which offers many opportunities to interact with the public.
It affirms his desire within policing to make a difference.
Blue Light programs are popular with young people and, as far as possible, are open to all.
Offerings have included camps, a Tailem Bend disco, mini golf, 10-pin bowling, and boxing at Mannum.
He also reminded that Neighborhood Watch always welcomes more volunteers for this well established presence in our towns.
Coffee with a Cop, in one of the shopping centres, provides interested community members with the opportunity to have a chat with a range of police officers from the various services within the police force.
Senior Constable Brown expressed his gratitude for the many opportunities he experiences within the Lower Murray, and appreciated the nominations provided by locals resulting in his award.
