Police are treating as suspicious a fire which broke out in an area of scrub at Northern Heights on Saturday night.

MFS and CFS firefighters rushed out to the intersection of Nilpena and Lagoon Roads around 8pm as flames erupted in grass, reeds and gum trees.

They were able to bring the fire under control before it could threaten nearby residents or their properties.

However, police believe it was deliberately lit.

Anyone who witnessed anything suspicious in the area at the time, or who has information which may assist with the investigation, should contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or at www.crimestopperssa.com.au, anonymously if needed.

Tailem Bend copper thieves strike again

Meanwhile, police are also investigating the theft of a large amount of copper wiring, plus a set of truck keys, from a Tailem Bend property last week.

Someone cut through a wire fence to break into the property sometime between last Saturday, May 30, and Friday, June 5.

Anyone with information about the theft, or who has CCTV or dash cam footage taken on Webb Street at the time, should contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or at www.crimestopperssa.com.au.

Thieves also stole copper wiring from a level crossing on Orland Road on the morning of June 1.

The accident was reported around 1pm on May 27.
