Things to do in Murray Bridge: March 31–April 6, 2023

Youth Week will kick off at Murray Bridge’s skate park this Saturday with workshops, spray paint and a blast of hip-hop.

The city’s council will run a free event at Sturt Reserve between 10.30am and 4pm, with skill sessions for skaters, scooters and BMX riders, plus aerosol art how-tos and live music from young artists who’ve come up through the Station.

Youth officer Aiden Fargher said the youth week skate jam would be even better than last year’s.

“The skate, ccoot and BMX workshop conducted by Roll all Day instructors is suitable for budding skateboarders aged four years and older, including complete newbies,” he said.

“For those with more artistic intentions, Morilla Community Services will be conducting a free workshop (for people) to build their aerosol skills.”

Colonial Days of East Wellington exhibition opening: 10.30am at the Coorong Gallery, 95–101 Railway Terrace, Tailem Bend. This photographic collection and display of historic memorabilia reflects the Colonial Days at East Wellington by outlining the Special Surveys of 1839, the development of the ferry crossing, early settlement and gold escorts. Create your own landscape painting as Walker’s Flat artist Lyn Wood guides you through an exploration of water-based oils. Lyn Wood draws inspiration from the ever-changing River Murray and the landscapes surrounding her Walker’s Flat studio. The workshop is ideal for beginners with a keen curiosity and interest in learning to use oil paints or those wanting to improve their technical painting skills. Age range: 18+. Cost: $60 per person or $55 concession. The cost includes all materials and use of equipment. Murray Bridge Rotary Art Show 2023 exhibition opening: 2–4pm at the Murray Bridge Regional Gallery, 27 Sixth Street, Murray Bridge. Jointly hosted by the Rotary Clubs of Mobilong and Murray Bridge for over 30 years, this popular annual community-driven exhibition presents a broad diversity of artworks by emerging, seasoned and hobbyist artists from the Murraylands region and beyond. The event provides an opportunity for entrants to exhibit and sell their work, as well as be in the running to win a prize in the categories of 2D, 3D and Photography.

Free Easter fun: Monday 3 April–Sunday 9 April at Murray Bridge Marketplace. Join in the free Easter Egg Hunt, which includes a gift for each participating child. Grab your Easter Hunt card from the hunt stand at the top of the travellator and follow the clues to find the bunnies with coloured Easter eggs displayed throughout the Marketplace. Return your completed card to Bridge Eye Care and collect a small Easter surprise. Shoppers can complete this unguided activity in around 10 minutes at any time during Centre hours.

Easter hat parade: 10am at the Murray Bridge Library. Communities for Children Murraylands celebrates Easter Week for Parent Child Mother Goose (PCMG). Get into the Easter spirit by wearing a wonderful hat and joining in the Easter fun. PCMG is a 45-minute evidence-based session suitable for families aged from zero to five years.
