Tailem Bend year sixes get a Blue Light experience
Plus SA Police search for a stolen motorbike in Murray Bridge and arrest a speeding drink driver.
Tailem Bend Primary School’s class of 2024 has learned all about policing during a two-day trip to Monarto and Murray Bridge.
Sixteen year six students took a walk across the old Murray Bridge before camping overnight at Monarto Safari Park on August 8, taking a private tour and participating in team building activities before enjoying a night walk and storytelling around a campfire.
They took another walk around the park at dawn the next day and cleaned a bison enclosure before setting off for Murray Bridge.
During a busy afternoon at the Murray Mallee police headquarters, they met the local commander and officers from SA Police’s mounted, crime scene investigation, highway and property branches.
Another motorbike stolen
Meanwhile, a spate of motorbike thefts in the Murraylands has continued with the disappearance of a children’s bike at Tailem Bend.
The red and white Honda CRF110, with a four-stroke engine, was stolen from a property on the Princes Highway sometime between July 21 and August 12.
Anyone with information about the theft should contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or at www.crimestopperssa.com.au, and quote reference number 24-138M.
Police urged everyone to keep their bikes in a secure place.
The theft followed another in Murray Bridge on July 6, and two more on July 15 and 17.
Driver pinged for speeding while drunk
Finally, traffic police have reported two local drivers for alleged offences over the past week.
A 37-year-old Murray Bridge man was allegedly caught speeding while drunk on the South Eastern Freeway last Thursday.
Officers allegedly detected a Hyundai sedan travelling at 131 kilometres per hour in a 110 zone at Monarto South around 4pm.
Upon stopping it and breath-testing the driver, he allegedly returned a blood alcohol reading of 0.171, more than three times the legal limit.
The officers impounded his car, reported him for speeding and drink driving, and banned him from driving for 12 months.
A 26-year-old Gawler East man was disqualified for six months after being picked up on Murray Bridge’s main street on Saturday.
He was allegedly driving drunk, on a suspended licence, without any tail lights.
Police allege that he produced a breath test result of 0.149.
Officers impounded his vehicle and told him to expect a court date.
