Vickers, Weinmann awarded as senior tennis season begins

Murray Bridge seniors tennis has got underway at the lawn tennis courts at Sturt Reserve.

The day began with the AGM; all positions were filled with dedicated players.

The perpetual Mort Daly Trophy was then presented for the 2022-23 season for most sets won.

Recipients were Lorraine Vickers and Theo Weinmann.

Afterwards, 12 members played on the courts in a round robin format in perfect weather.

Seniors tennis is played generally on the second Sunday of the month, subject to change.

Showdown at the Bend will decide Superbike series

Preparations for the ASBK grand finale at Tailem Bend are underway, with less than four weeks to go until the title decider and top riders Josh Waters and Troy Herfoss entering the event equal on 293 points.

For the first time in Superbike history, two riders will go into the final round tied on points in what’s shaping as a powerhouse Honda v Ducati battle to the bitter end.

Championship riders looking for an edge undertook tests at the Bend this week in preparation for the grand finale.

“These type of (test) days, it’s important to be on the front foot, setting a good pace, trying to make sure we’re thinking about ourselves and others are thinking about us, too,” Herfoss said.

“We worked really hard last year and I actually got my first race win back here at the Bend, so it’ll be icing on the cake to make that recovery complete with clinching the championship.”

Alistair MacDonald, CEO of the Shell V-Power Motorsport Park, said he was thrilled that fans would witness an all-time championship showdown on December 1-3.
