After having been a bit scratchy in recent times, fringe A-grader Tyson Wright has put it all together on Saturday to claim a stroke competition at Murray Bridge Golf Club.

With play returning to the new course after sufficient drying winds and a break in the rainfall levels over the previous week, Wright was the only player to break his handicap and this he did in style, finishing up with a three-under nett 67.

This included a superb nett 30 back nine where he really cashed in on some great tee-to-green play, and it also gave him victory in the day's pro comp.

Was it a flash in the pan or the start of a good run for this humble golfer?

Only time will tell.

Winter sun cheers up shooters

A stunning winter’s day has given shooters near perfect conditions from 400 metres this past Saturday at the Deed Range in Monarto.

While no one was able to score a double, four were able to score at least one possible and put runs on the board at this early stage of the season.

Leading the way off-rifle was, once more, John Cranwell, whose 60.05 paired with a 58.03 gave him the win in F-Open by two points, ahead of Ryan Yeates, who also scored a 60.06 in his second round.

F-Standard was well represented with Ian Taylor scoring a 60.05 in his second round to finish with 114.07, ahead of Bryan Robertson on centres but just behind Gordon Harrison, who showed consistency is key, scoring a pair of 58s to top the grade with 116.04.

Ian Taylor and Bryan Robertson, however, battled it out for the handicap win, with Taylor emerging victorious by 0.1 of a point.

Peter Casley scored the only magpies of the day.

TR was a lonely grade on the day, but that didn’t stop Greg Traeger also scoring a possible on his way to 99.07, while in sporting, Mark Whittle finished with a 93.09.

Competition continues next week from 600 metres.
