Police urge caution after Murray Bridge thefts
Plus a Murray Bridge man is arrested over an armed robbery at Clovelly Park, and traffic officers report four local motorists.
Murray Bridge police have urged locals to be alert after several thefts during the past week.
A silver Kawasaki ZZR motorbike, registration S36AJG, was taken from the front verandah of a house on Hannaford Street sometime between midday last Wednesday and 5pm on Thursday.
It is the second motorbike stolen locally in the space of a week, following the theft of a Zongshen on July 31.
A car was stolen on Cawte Street between 1am and 4am on Saturday after the thief first broke into a house and stole the keys.
Police were later able to recover it but are still investigating.
A neighbour had a vehicle rummaged through, but nothing stolen, after they left it unlocked in a driveway.
Tools were stolen from a ute on Theatre Lane on Sunday, too.
Police urged locals to:
- Lock cars and remove any valuables
- Park in a well-lit area, preferably behind locked gates and carports
- Store car keys and other easily transportable belongings such as phones and wallets out of sight at home
- Report any suspicious activity or interference with vehicles by calling 131 444
Murray Bridge man arrested over South Road robbery
Meanwhile, police have arrested a 35-year-old Murray Bridge man over an armed robbery at a second-hand shop in Adelaide.
Two men entered the shop on South Road at Clovelly Park around 11.10am on Monday, armed with a gun and hammers; threatened staff; and stole jewellery and a cash register.
A police helicopter followed one of the men to an address at Christies Beach, where Star Group officers made two arrests.
The Murray Bridge man was charged with aggravated robbery, threatening to cause harm, dangerous driving, and over an outstanding warrant.
He was expected to appear at Christies Beach Magistrates Court on Tuesday.
Road rule-breakers picked up
Finally, police have reported four Murray Bridge motorists for allegedly breaking road rules over the past week:
- A 39-year-old woman who allegedly returned a blood alcohol reading of 0.078, higher than the legal limit, on Adelaide Road on Friday
- A 52-year-old woman allegedly caught doing a burnout on Ridge Road on Saturday
- A 49-year-old man who allegedly refused to submit to a breath test on Homburg Drive on Monday
- A 24-year-old man allegedly caught riding an unregistered, uninsured motorbike, with unassigned numberplates, without a licence on Le Messurier Street on Monday
The first two drivers had their vehicles impounded, the 49-year-old lost his licence for 12 months on the spot and all four will face Murray Bridge Magistrates Court.
