A man is recovering after being struck by lightning at the Supercars race at Tailem Bend over the weekend.
On-course paramedics rushed to help the man, aged in his 30s, after he was reportedly struck on Sunday.
He was taken to the Murray Bridge hospital for treatment of an arm injury before being discharged.
Event organisers at the Airtouch 500 wished the man a “full and speedy recovery”, and committed to providing him with free tickets to next year’s race if he wanted to come back.
Unbelievably, the same spectator was also the winner of a giveaway which provided him with flights, accommodation and two tickets to the Supercars race in Adelaide at the end of the season.

Meanwhile, police are seeking the public’s assistance with two recent thefts in the Murraylands:
- A Ford Ranger, registration S064BFO, was stolen from the driveway of a home at Monarto sometime between 7am on September 6 and 5pm last Thursday, September 10
- Sporting equipment was taken from a sports shed at a Murray Bridge school sometime between 6am on September 6 and 6am on September 9, and property damage caused

On the road again
Murray Mallee traffic police have picked up two local motorists over the weekend:
- A 38-year-old man who allegedly returned a blood alcohol reading of 0.161, more than three times the legal limit, while driving on Jervois Road, Murray Bridge just before 1.30am on Monday; he was reported, lost his licence for 12 months and had his MG station wagon impounded for 28 days
- A 22-year-old Murray Bridge man allegedly caught driving an unregistered, uninsured Nissan sedan on a disqualified licence on Swanport Road around 7.15pm on Saturday; he was reported and had his car taken away for 28 days
Driver’s death put down to separate issue
Finally, South Australia’s road toll has been reduced by one following an investigation into a crash at Burdett last month.
A 61-year-old Tailem Bend man died after crashing his ute into a tree.
However, authorities have determined it was not the collision that caused his death.
The number of lives lost on SA roads this year stood at 79 on Monday.
