Trap shooter Molly Bretag finishes fourth at junior world championships

Pompoota’s Molly Bretag has maintained her position among the best trap shooters on the planet.

She finished fourth in the women’s trap final at the International Shooting Sport Federation world championship juniors in Changwon, South Korea over the weekend.

The 20-year-old achieved the second-highest score among all competitors in the qualification stage, but fell out of contention after missing five of the first 30 clay targets in the final.

Visitor wins Stableford comp at Murray Bridge Golf Club

Echunga Golf Club visitor Janis Janson has pulled off a hit-and-run visit to Ritter Street, taking prime position on the podium with a sizzling 41 Stableford points.

Relishing the dry conditions on Saturday – as opposed to his currently soggy home hills course – Janson said he “still left plenty of shots out there”, but fortunately for him, he didn’t need them anyway.

Tyson Wright put it together to win the A grade with 38 points, while Graeme Munt showed he was back to his best after his heart attack on course earlier in the year, taking out the B grade with a fine 39-point round.

It was good also to see the fiery one, Freddie Carter, back from his sojourn up north and straight back to winning ways in the C grade with a quality 38-point and swear-free round – yeah, right.

The $120 eagle’s nest went off when top A graders Aaron Zrim and Andrew Meddle shared the kitty.

Zrim hit his drive on the par four ninth over the trees to within a metre and holed the putt, while Meddle scored a standard eagle on the par five 12th, hitting driver, five-wood and draining a six-metre putt.

Such an easy game, isn’t it?

It’s another Stableford comp this Saturday for all who wish to try their luck.

John Cranwell does well at Murray Bridge Rifle Club

In stark contrast to last week’s shoot, this week’s championship round from 1000 yards severely tested the members of the Murray Bridge Rifle Club.

The winds were generally gentle, around 15 kilometres per hour, but tended to change direction and intensity at a moment’s notice, meaning that timing was everything.

The standout scores for the day all came from F-class, where John Cranwell managed a 58.06 in his second round to help him secure the top-off rifle award and the F-class handicap award.

Other notable scores were from Gordon Harrison, who had a 56.01 in his first round, and Oscar Neumann, who shot a 54.02 and a 51.02 to claim the top off-rifle award for F-standard and narrowly miss out on the handicap.
