Murray Bridge visitor information centre’s move completed
Tourists can now find maps, guides and souvenirs co-located with Murray Bridge Library, at the corner of East and South Terrace.
A contentious move for Murray Bridge’s visitor information centre has been completed.
The VIC began operating at a new location inside Murray Bridge Library, beneath the Murray Bridge Marketplace shopping centre at the corner of East and South Terrace, on Monday.
The maps, guides and souvenirs which previously had a home in a space adjoining the local council office, further down South Terrace, now overlook Wharf Hill and the River Murray.
New parking controls have also been introduced on East Terrace, with a dedicated space for “long vehicles only” so that caravan and camper van owners can pull up right out the front.
The only remaining piece yet to fall into place is the installation of a main counter for the VIC, expected next week.
Like the library, the visitor centre will be open seven days per week, from 9.30am from Monday-Saturday and 1pm on Sundays.
However, its volunteers will close up shop at 4pm on most days, and 1pm on Saturdays, while the library remains open a little longer on weekdays.
The VIC’s move was announced in May, to a lukewarm reception from locals.
The Murray Bridge council will use the old centre as an extension of its office.
