Sports reports: Junior River Murray netball awards presented
Plus the latest in gymnastics, darts, horse racing and more.
On Monday night, with more than 250 people coming together at Tailem Bend Town Hall, the River Murray Netball Association celebrated not only its junior award winners, but an entire season of friendships, growth, commitment and memories.
The association thanked each and every family, coach, volunteer, sponsor and supporter in a social media post after the event.
“Your contribution helps create the experiences and memories our juniors will carry with them long after the season is over,” the association said.
“To every player recognised tonight, congratulations on your achievements.
“To every junior who represented your club this season, we are so proud of you – not only for how you played, but for the way you supported your teammates.”
Mypolonga won the overall award for the best club at a junior level, while the Mandy Snell Memorial Trophy for the junior players who earned the most votes in their grades went to Mallee’s Coco Paech and Jervois’ Ruby Mason.
Paech and Imperials’ Airlie Clayson also won trophies as the top vote-getters across multiple grades.

- Junior one: Coco Paech (Mallee Districts)

- Sub-junior one: Ruby Mason (Jervois)
- Sub-junior two: Harmony Wells (Tailem Bend)
Junior gymnasts do well at state championships
The SA Junior Gymnastics Championships have been held recently in Adelaide, with two local athletes placing highly in their age groups.
Briahna took silver on bars and Layla was fourth on floor.
Gymnastics was a highly skilled sport and it took a lot of hard work to achieve those kinds of results, said the Murraylands Gymnastics Academy in a social media post.
Horse of the year finalists announced
The finalists are in for the 2025-26 Murray Bridge Horse of the Year.
Vying for the coveted title are Garrett Lynch's tough Stakes winner Alainge, Sarah Rutten Racing's star stayer Eventually, group three-winning filly Fringes for Michael Hickmott Bloodstock and Mating Call, who won a group three and was group one-placed, for Dan Clarken and Oopy McGillivray.
The winner will be announced at a spring racing lunch and awards event at Murray Bridge Racing Club on September 24.
The spring racing season kicked off this week in Murray Bridge.

There were 180s all over the place with Martin Rose (three) and two each to James Little, Darren Smith, Dwayne Wilson, Jakob Grigg and Craig Atze.
