Sports Reports: Paech outshoots competition in Murray Bridge Rifle Club
Robert Paech had a comfortable win in Saturday's championship round of shooting at Monarto's Deed Range.
This post includes a contribution from Murray Bridge Rifle Club’s Daniel Irvine.
There was a light but variable breeze blowing from the right last Saturday at the Deed Range in Monarto, but shooters were thankful that the day was uninterrupted by rain, holding out until after the Championship Round at 400 metres was complete.
Robert Paech shot the only possible for the day – a 50.05 in the second round – to give him a comfortable win over John Cain.
Cain was the only other Target Rifle competitor present on the day, in both the off-rifle 98.09 to 92.05, as well as the handicap, although in the handicap it was much closer, with just over a point between them.
In the F-Open, there was a 58.03 from John Cranwell and 57s from David McDonald and Frank Marshall.
Ultimately, David McDonald proved more consistent, following his first round up with a 56.03 to finish on 113.05, three points clear of Frank Marshall in second place.
Ian Taylor was the standout in F-Standard, finishing with 110.06, two points ahead of Gordon Harrison and well ahead of the other Standard shooters.
Taylor’s lead was such that he also secured the F-Class handicap with little difficulty, finishing five points ahead of David McDonald and Frank Marshall.
Visitor Terry Trigg also had a good day out, scoring a 57.03, 51.00 to finish on 108.03 shooting F-Standard.
Less happy about their days, perhaps, were John Cain and Oscar Neumann, winning the TR and F-Class Magpie Awards respectively.
Competition continues from 500 metres next week.
