Hot, gusty weather might have put a lid on the crowd numbers, but hundreds have still turned out for Murray Bridge’s richest annual horse race in 2024.

Richard and Chantelle Jolly’s Dancing Storm, with Todd Pannell aboard, won the $200,000 feature race at Saturday’s Magic Millions, to the delight of his owners.

“You never think you’re going to get a racehorse, you never think it’s going to run, you never think it’ll be in a mounting yard, you never think it’s going to win, and never in a race like this,” the owners’ representative said after the race.

“It’s just a joy to be a part of racing.”

Most punters stayed inside the event centre as temperatures soared outside – indeed, local advocacy group Murraylands Animal Welfare Watch had urged the cancellation of the race meeting because of the “extreme” weather.

But those who still came did it in style, as you’ll see in our social photo gallery.
