Members of the Murray Bridge Social Garden Group have learned about cacti and succulents at their latest meeting.

Last Friday, president Deirdre Kitto welcomed 38 members and seven visitors to the Johnstone Park combined clubrooms.

Angela McGoran from Stubbytubby, at Seaview Downs, was the guest speaker for the day.

Ms McGoran was a teacher and still does some relief teaching on the side but her real passion is growing succulents and cacti.

This was her first time doing public speaking to a large group of people.

She spoke on how to propagate and care for the plants, especially on how to prevent diseases and pests and also what medium to plant them in.

She also had numerous plants for sale.

At the meeting, Rodney and Jeanette Zanker were presented with life memberships for their service to the gardening group.

The next meeting will be held on July 5 and the guest speaker will be Chris Thompson on behalf of Saint John Ambulance.

Ms Thompson will be speaking on the topic of learning how to use a defibrillator in the case of an emergency.

There is a slight change to the starting time; it will now be at 9.45am.

All are welcome to enjoy friendship and gardening.
