Fire destroys home on Slade Street, Murray Bridge
A plume of smoke has attracted the attention of concerned residents across the rural city.
Fire appears to have destroyed a home in the heart of Murray Bridge on Thursday evening.
Emergency services were called to a home on Slade Street around 4.50pm.
Country Fire Service units from around the region soon joined the Metropolitan Fire Service, police and SA Power Networks in the fight as a plume of black smoke rose above the city and onlookers crowded nearby street corners.
Residents voluntarily blocked off some of the surrounding intersections to keep rubberneckers away.
Meanwhile, firefighters did their utmost to protect neighbouring properties.
By 6.20pm the MFS had issued a warning for residents to avoid the smoke which was drifting south to southwest of the fire, towards Mulgundawah Road and the golf course.
At that stage, they expected to have the situation under control and for the smoke to clear by 9pm.
More to come.
