The Rural City of Murray Bridge is seeking expressions of interest from persons who wish to be considered for the vacant position of Deputy Independent Member (one position) on the Council Assessment Panel (CAP).

The CAP is responsible for assessing a range of development applications against the provisions of the Murray Bridge Council Development Plan (and in the future, the Planning and Design Code) and may also provide advice to Council on development assessment trends and issues.

Meetings are currently held on the third Friday of the month at the Local Government Centre, 2 Seventh Street, Murray Bridge and generally commence at 10am, with site visits undertaken prior to the meeting.

A copy of the CAP’s Terms of Reference and Meeting Procedures are available at the Council office or by clicking here.

The implementation of the planning reforms in South Australia through the new Planning, Development and Infrastructure Act 2016 has provided an opportunity for a Deputy Independent Member to join the Panel.

The Deputy Independent Member would only participate in CAP meetings when one of the Members is unable to attend.

As such it is likely that the Deputy Independent Member would only be called upon to participate in CAP meetings on an irregular basis.

Qualifications and interest

Interested persons should ideally possess experience in the planning and development industry and/or qualifications in one or more of the following fields:

  • town planning
  • architecture
  • landscape architecture
  • urban design
  • environmental planning
  • community development, or
  • any other field that is relevant to the activities of the CAP

Applicants should hold a current Level Two Accreditation as part of the Accredited Professionals Scheme.

The Deputy Independent Member on the CAP will receive an allowance per meeting where their attendance is required, and the term of appointment shall run until October 2022.

Applications should include a resume and brief covering letter detailing skills and experience, and should be forwarded to Martin Smallridge, Manager Organisational Development, Rural City of Murray Bridge at either PO Box 421, Murray Bridge SA 5253 or hr@murraybridge.sa.gov.au by 5pm on Friday, November 20, 2020.

For further information regarding this position, please contact Council’s Manager Development and Regulation, Geoff Parsons, on 8539 1100 or g.parsons@murraybridge.sa.gov.au.
