On Tuesday morning, Mypolonga’s Lot 23 held their Biggest Morning Tea to raise money for the Cancer Council.

An enticing array of sweets were on offer, from florentines to flourless chocolate cupcakes, and the cosy location made for a warm and inviting atmosphere.

Behind the treats however, there was a more serious cause.

Lot 23’s Sandy Norris said she has lost a few friends to cancer over the years, along with her father.

“He was diagnosed with melanoma on my birthday on August 12, and we lost him on his birthday on March 14,” Ms Norris said.

“We are doing this to raise money and awareness, and just bring the community together, which is a big passion of mine because Mypo is a fantastic place.”

Ms Norris said the tea is one of many fundraisers she has hosted, and that the Mypolonga community are always more than happy to contribute.

This morning’s event was a great example of this, as most of the prizes on offer were donated by locals.

“If somebody needs something here, it’s amazing how everybody goes ‘yep’ … it’s always something the community is really good at,” Ms Norris said.
