Callington Show competition invites us to reflect on 2020

The organisers of this year's cancelled show are calling for poetry, prose, art and photography ahead of 2021.

Callington Show competition invites us to reflect on 2020

The show must go on – that’s the spirit behind a new idea from the organisers of the Callington Show.

At this time of year, volunteers would normally be reflecting on their successes.

Instead, since COVID-19 forced the 2020 event to be cancelled, they are asking each of us to reflect on the year we’ve had.

“Reflections 2020” will be the theme of a literary, art and black-and-white photography competition organised by the Callington Agricultural and Horticultural Society.

Winning entries will be included in a book with the same title, to be launched at the next Callington Show on the last Sunday in October 2021.

The top three place-getters in each category will also receive prizes of $30, $20 and $10.

Entries – due between January 18 and February 26 – can be about the pandemic, last summer’s bushfires, the drought or any other topic pertinent to the theme.

The competition is open to all residents of South Australia.

In any other year, Callington Show – one of the state’s youngest – would attract more than 4000 visitors to the town, population 455.
