Auto Collectors Club hosts its annual awards dinner for 2024
A Murray Bridge car club has held another successful award dinner this year.

On the evening of June 22, 40 members of the Auto Collectors Club of Murray Bridge have come together at the 1924 Riverfront Steakhouse restaurant for their annual dinner.
The twin bridges were silhouetted by the setting of the sun, with the mighty Murray silently flowing and full of very cool water on a cool evening.
As members arrived two by two or more, it didn’t take long for the two tables of 20 already set for the occasion to fill up with members looking for a nice warm room, and they were not disappointed.
With most seated, members began talking about the events of the past week, chewing the fat as to what’s happening in the world around us: the political news and the lighting up of the near-100-year-old rail bridge, including how good that would look whilst sitting in the restaurant looking upstream towards the bridges.
It’s hopeful that the authorities responsible, along with the Rural City of Murray Bridge council members, will take this on board, putting the city well and truly onto the tourist map.
With the problems of the world unsolved, it was time for some refreshments, whilst waiting for the great staff at the 1924 Steakhouse to come around and take meal orders, which in due course were served to all members.
Having had their fill, president Harry Howitt and past secretary and life member Brenda Cowie called the gathering to order for the presentation of the yearly trophies.
Ms Cowie has given over the years in organising and ordering of the yearly trophies at the annual presentation night, encouraging younger members to get involved.
Last year’s winners were awarded keeper trophies so they could do exactly that: keep them.
This year’s award winners for were as follows:
- Harry Howitt: Valvoline Trophy for the most points scored for attending meetings and runs
- Jan Hall: President’s Trophy chosen by the president for continuing club service
- Deb and Jeff Schiller: Ladies’ Day Trophy, the winner of a quiz set by the organiser of the event
- Elizabeth and Claude Minge: Founders’ Trophy for the most interesting run/event during the year decided by a panel
- Ricky Kaak: Economy Run Trophy for members on a run to determine the amount of fuel used by a nominated car

ACCMB members duly applauded in the usual manner.
With all the evenings duties finalised, Mr Howitt thanked all in attendance and reminded everyone of the AGM next meeting.
The meeting will be held on Tuesday, July 2 at 7.30pm at the ACCMB clubrooms; all will be welcome.
