Murray River Glows festival will light up Wharf Hill this winter
The Murray Bridge council has announced a June event which will combine the best of the city’s New Year’s Eve and Christmas celebrations.
A one-off festival this June will give Murray Bridge residents a chance to celebrate the community with fireworks and a light show.
Six months after cancelling local New Year’s Eve plans due to the River Murray floods, the city’s council has announced an event called Murray River Glows for the weekend of June 15-18.
Described as “a celebration of strength and unity”, it will feature a fireworks display on the Saturday night, a light show by award-winning local technician Alec Thomson, food trucks and live music.
Affiliated events on the Friday, including a workshop at Murray Bridge Library with celebrity gardener Sophie Thomson, will help locals in their continued recovery from the floods.
Mayor Wayne Thorley said he looked forward to the event on Wharf Hill, opposite the Bridgeport Hotel.
“We’re excited to be able to host this event after the disappointment of having to defer our New Year’s Eve celebration,” he said.
“We’ve pulled together some great elements … and we hope that the community will come out to enjoy the festivities.”
