Murray Bridge’s spring garden competition is now open for 2023
It’s time to unveil the beauty of spring and submit your entry to this annual contest, part of the council’s Local Legends campaign.

Get your gardening gloves ready and your creative ideas blooming, because the Rural City of Murray Bridge spring garden competition is officially open for nominations.
This annual event, designed to celebrate the art of gardening and foster a sense of community pride, invites residents to showcase their green spaces and contribute to the beauty of our thriving community.
The spring garden competition aims to support and encourage the residents of the Rural City of Murray Bridge to nurture their gardening skills and cultivate sustainable green havens within our community.
Whether you’re a seasoned gardener or a newcomer with a passion for plants, this competition provides the perfect platform to share your creativity and contribute to a greener, more environmentally conscious future.
Participants’ entries will be evaluated by a panel of judges who will consider various criteria, including presentation, plantings, environmental considerations, creativity and passion.

With a range of categories, each catering to different styles and sizes of gardens, there’s a spot for every garden enthusiast to shine.
Categories include:
- Best large garden: Celebrating gardens covering more than 1200 square metres, be it the entire garden or a part of it
- Best business garden: An opportunity for businesses to adorn their frontage with nature’s beauty, making a welcoming first impression
- Best small garden: Showcasing the charm of smaller spaces, including pot gardens, balconies and terraces
- Best senior’s garden: Honouring residents aged over 65 who have personally established and maintained their own garden
- Best sustainable garden: Recognising gardens with minimal environmental impact, recycling, low water usage and environmental practices
- Edible garden: Celebrating gardens that bear delicious crops, promoting sustainability and home-grown delights
- Best school garden: Connecting classroom knowledge with practical garden experiences for educational institutions
- Best community garden: Showcasing the collaborative efforts of community volunteers in enhancing public spaces
To be eligible, applicants must reside within the Rural City of Murray Bridge.
Only one application will be accepted per individual or group per category.
While celebrating gardening excellence, the competition fosters a sense of community spirit and environmental responsibility.
Entries for the spring garden competition will be accepted until October 16, with judging scheduled for October 26-27.
The culmination of this vibrant event will take place at an awards ceremony on 15 November 15.
