Labor makes more promises to Mannum, Callington and Mypolonga
The party’s commitments depend only on the statewide result, not whether Simone Bailey gets up in Hammond, Premier Peter Malinauskas says.

Communities across Hammond are set to benefit if Labor is returned to government at this Saturday’s state election.
Premier Peter Malinauskas made a big splash last month when he promised $100 million for bus services, hospital upgrades, a new technical college and various other projects in Murray Bridge.
But Labor candidate Simone Bailey has since been criss-crossing the electorate, pledging cash to other causes.
Among them are:
- $300,000 for a new play area at Callington Primary School, where a sinkhole has made part of the yard unusable
- $250,000 for a wastewater upgrade at Mypolonga Combined Sporting Club, to accompany the new facilities being built there
- $60,000 for new public toilets at Mannum’s Haythorpe Reserve, replacing those destroyed during the 2022-23 floods
She and the Labor Party also committed to funding a shelter and interpretive signage near the old smelter at Callington; and pointed to an investment to be made in automating a standpipe at Tungkillo.
The various promises were announced on social media and at small-scale events in each community, as commitments of “a re-elected Malinauskas Labor government”.
Mr Malinauskas said last month that the funding did not depend on Ms Bailey winning in Hammond.
“No, this is a policy that we are taking to the election,” he said, in response to a question from this publication.
“It’s a commitment on behalf of the party.
“It will be part of all our costing arrangements, which we’re accounting for and doing properly.”
He compared the $100 million announcement to one he had made in Mount Gambier four years ago.
Voters in the South East had elected an independent, but the Labor government had still delivered on all of its commitments, he said.
“I’m making the same commitment to the people of Murray Bridge,” he said.
