Got ‘em: Police catch hoons at Monarto South

Police have finally caught up with a group of hoons who had been causing trouble at Monarto South in recent months.

Officers were called to the intersection of Ferries McDonald and Chaunceys Road just after midnight on Saturday after reports that several vehicles were doing burnouts.

On arrival, they found six vehicles present, including one which was allegedly in the process of laying rubber.

They reported the whole group and defected four of the vehicles.

A 29-year-old Morphett Vale man was also reported for driving while unregistered, uninsured and using unassigned numberplates, and for misuse of a motor vehicle; his vehicle was impounded for 28 days and he will face court.

Another driver was fined for the same three offences, minus the misuse charge.

“Drivers face being reported or arrested, and their cars impounded, if caught driving in a dangerous or inappropriate manner,” SA Police said in a statement.

“Police have no tolerance (for) this manner of driving, (or for) putting themselves or others at risk.”

Residents had reported hoon activity in the area a number of times in recent months, but to date police had only caught a single motorcyclist.

Murray Bridge woman reported over bin fire

Meanwhile, officers have reported a 31-year-old Murray Bridge woman over a rubbish bin fire on Adelaide Road on Monday afternoon.

The Metropolitan Fire Service had to put out the fire, which completely destroyed the bin, at 2.15pm.

An investigation led police to the local woman, who will face a property damage charge in court.

The incident arose less than a week after the start of fire danger season in the Murraylands, during which open fires are not allowed; and less than a month after a bin fire caused significant damage to a GP clinic down the road.
