Sports reports: Black Swans into SA Rugby Grand Final

After 15 rounds of the metro men’s competition, the mighty Murray Bridge M.E.C. Black Swans have claimed back-to-back minor premierships in NRL SA, producing a dominant season and suffering just the one defeat along the way.
Last weekend, they made it to the grand final with a commanding display over the Southern Bulldogs at home.
Team members Joseph Elkington and Michael Holland are also in the running for season ending awards in the most tries scored and most points kicked categories.
The Swans will line up against the second-placed Eels in the NRL SA grand final on Sunday at Eyre Sports Park, off Womma Road, Eyre at 3.35pm.
Glenn Hanson stuns with rare trifecta
It was a big payday on Saturday for Glenn Hanson when he won the day's Stableford competition as well as the lucrative pro comp and also the yabby at Murray Bridge Golf Club.
That is a rare happening indeed.
Shooting a sensational one over the card 37 off the stick front nine to give him an unheard of 26 Stableford points at half way he cruised in with 14 more on the back for a 40 point total which was just good enough for victory.
A superb iron on the tough 17th hole gave him the Yabby for NTP there as well.
That's a lot of coin into his club voucher account for one day - well done Glenn.
Club barman and in form "A" grader Nick Williams began his round disastrously when his drive off the first tee ended up two metres BEHIND him after he topped his ball into the ground and it spun back viciously to actually finish in reverse.
Copping all sorts of barbs from everyone who saw it happen Nick coolly re-teed it and smashed his next shot down the middle and still scored a point for the hole.
Ending up with 36 points and a win in the "A" grade that is some recovery!
Injury riddled "C" grader Sid Robbins showed he still had it with a fine 39 point round and win in his grade.
Yes, beware of the injured golfer is such a true saying.
Teen sensation Oakley Edwards almost joined rare company when his 3 wood second shot on the par five 12th cannoned into the pin but refused to drop for a once in a blue moon albatross.
Forced instead to guide in a 2m putt for eagle he at least cleaned out the eagles nest to give him something to remember after a not so great round (by his standards).
Congratulations also to the mid-week stableford winner Craig Owens who scored 39 to defeat runner-up Craig Kimber on 37.
Tournament of Champions decided at Bridge Bowl
On Sunday, Bridge Bowl held the finals of its 2026 Tournament of Champions.
After a four-week qualifying period, the top 16 played it out with the field gradually narrowing down throughout the day.
The semi final was massive, with the defending champion James getting knocked out on a 262, 2 pins short of the top two.
Roslyn and Luke progressed through to the grand final where Luke took the win 255-219.
Well done also to Brad Thompson (279), Sean (273) and Ash Brown (269) winning vouchers for the high HC games in the first three blocks.
Summer netball season is about to kick off
The Murray Bridge Netball Association is looking for players to start getting their teams together for the new season.
The season is expected to start in early October and, if there's enough interest, continue after Christmas into the new year.
There's also a call for a kids competition so if you know any youngsters keen to keep their netty going over Summer then please get in touch.
Mixed netball will be held on Tuesday nights, ladies comp on Thursday nights at the Christian Reserve courts on Recreation Avenue.

If you'd prefer your netball at a more sedate pace, walking netball is back on Monday nights, starting on August 31, at the same courts from 6-7pm.
