Murray Bridge service clubs recognised at state awards

Local service clubs' efforts to house young people, feed the hungry and engage young people in science have won them awards in 2021.

Murray Bridge service clubs recognised at state awards

Murray Bridge has done very well at the Premier’s Community Service Awards, held on Sunday at the Glenelg Golf Club.

Premier Stephen Marshall and Trade and Investment Minister Stephen Patterson made the presentations.

The combined service clubs of Murray Bridge, seven in total, won the team award with the project New Beginnings for Homeless Youth.

This was made up of the Rotary Clubs of Murray Bridge and Mobilong, Soroptomist International Murray Bridge, Murray Bridge City Lions, Kiwanis and Mobilong Inner Wheel.

This partnership enabled the purchase of items to fit out four specially built units for the homeless youth project known as Studio Purpose.

Two Housing SA maisonettes were fully renovated into four seperate units with involvement from Habitat for Humanity, local tradespeople, the Rural City of Murray Bridge and AC Care, with the aim of helping to build a future for vulnerable youth.

AC Care will provide individual professional support services for the young people.

Other awards featuring Murray Bridge were:

  • the social inclusion award, won by the Rotary Club of Mobilong for local support for Foodbank
  • the Harry Tillyer Schools Community Service Award, won by Murray Bridge High School’s pay it forward coffee project
  • the community education award, won by Soroptomist International Murray Bridge with Magic in Science

Rebecca Aloisi from the Rotary Club of Mobilong earned a special mention in the Heidi Taylor Community Service Award.

The Murray Bridge community is a caring community.
