Mannum woman charged over Australia Day boat crash

Meanwhile, a Mannum woman has been charged in connection with an Australia Day boat crash that left a young local with serious injuries.

The driver of a boat which hit a swimmer on January 26 had already been charged in the wake of the accident.

On Friday, police laid additional charges against a 43-year-old Mannum woman who allegedly hindered their investigation by failing to answer questions.

She was granted bail and will appear at Murray Bridge Magistrates Court on June 4.

Anyone with information that may help police with their investigation should contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or at www.crimestopperssa.com.au, anonymously if needed.

Police repeated a reminder to all boat users not to operate any vessel while drunk or distracted.

Child exploitation arrest made

Police have arrested a 32-year-old Murray Mallee man over alleged child exploitation offences.

Detectives from the Joint Anti Child Exploitation Team, a taskforce of SA and Federal Police, made the arrest on Sunday.

They charged the man with two counts of communicating to make a child amenable to sexual activity, and one of possession of child exploitation material.

The man did not apply for bail and was expected to face Adelaide Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday.

Detective Senior Sergeant Graham Tomkins said SA Police were dedicated to pursuing anyone who caused harm to children.

Not fishing for clues, just fishing for fish

Finally, in more positive news, SA Police have teamed up with Recfish SA to offer a fishing experience on Hindmarsh Island to students from Murray Bridge High School.

The students from the Clontarf Academy, which supports young Indigenous men, cast their lines in at Sugars Beach and learned about sustainable fishing, the importance of preserving the ecosystem and the impact of recreational fishing.

Sadly the fish weren’t biting, but the five officers and 10 students enjoyed the chance to get out and about.
