Be a legend – nominate someone for Murray Bridge’s Local Legends awards

If you know someone who has made an amazing contribution to the Murray Bridge district, here’s your opportunity to celebrate them.
Or embarrass them a bit, at the very least.
Nominations are now open for the Murray Bridge council’s annual Local Legends awards, given in four categories:
- Sports awards, closing on September 1
- A spring garden competition, closing on October 16
- A Christmas lights competition, closing on December 1
- Australia Day awards
Deputy Mayor Andrew Baltensperger said the campaign was all about recognising local legends’ achievements – and that a bit of friendly competition wouldn’t hurt, either.
“Our aim is to boost community pride and celebrate success as we highlight the incredible talent, passion and dedication that exists right here in Murray Bridge,” he said at a launch event on Tuesday.
“Sport is vital in rural communities like ours because it brings the community together.
“The spring garden competition is an opportunity for all green thumbs to showcase their creativity and passion for gardening, which enhances the beauty of our city.
“The Christmas lights competition will give individuals and businesses a chance to spread joy and add to the magic of the Christmas season.
“We will also be on the lookout for exceptional individuals who have contributed to our community’s wellbeing and prosperity … the great Australians living right here in the Rural City of Murray Bridge.”
He encouraged everyone to think about the people they knew who deserved to be recognised.
ABC gardening guru Sophie Thomson, Paralympian Katrina Webb OAM and lighting technician Alec Thomson are among the personalities who will front a local advertising campaign, calling for nominations, over the coming weeks.
Nomination forms are available on the Murray Bridge council’s website, at the council office or at Murray Bridge Library.
