Winning lotto ticket had been stuck to Murray Bridge man's fridge all week

A Murray Bridge man is more than $1 million richer after finding a winning lotto ticket had been stuck to his fridge for five days.

He only realised his good fortune on Friday after a tip-off from his mum.

She had heard that a Saturday X Lotto division one winner had been sold locally.

“My mum checked the ticket online after hearing about a mystery winner on the radio,” the winner said.

“I was so surprised when she showed me, but I think she was more excited than me.

“I just had to see if it was really true first.”

The lotto winner, aged in his 20s, said he planned to help his mum pay off her mortgage, then invest the rest to set himself up for life.

“I’m definitely thinking about treating myself, too,” he said.

“Maybe a trip overseas when we can travel again.”

The winning ticket was purchased at Murray Bridge Newsagency and Gifts on Sixth Street.

Owner Adrian Pergallini said he was glad to see the money go to a local.

“News of big wins like this moves around town very quickly (through) the power of Facebook and the gossip trail,” he said.

“Everyone’s been excited with anticipation to see if they’re the mystery winner.

“We wish our latest winner all the best and can’t wait to have another division one winner again soon.”

It was the fourth time a million-dollar-winning ticket had been purchased at the newsagency, but the first since its move from Bridge Street in 2017.

The winning numbers were four, 12, 14, 17, 22 and 33.

The division one win was worth $1,052,281.12 to each of six winners around Australia.
