Wind storm gives Murray Bridge SES a busy weekend
The Murraylands' State Emergency Service volunteers have received more than 40 calls for help as gale-force winds blew through the region.

Property owners and State Emergency Service volunteers are recovering after a weekend wind storm which brought down dozens of trees and caused property damage around the Murraylands.
Murray Bridge’s State Emergency Service brigade received 45 calls for help between 10pm on Saturday and 6pm on Sunday.
Most were to do with fallen trees, loose sheets of roofing or flattened fences, but half a dozen callers reported more serious problems, including:
- a tree which fell on a house on The Broadway, Murray Bridge
- a verandah which threatened to collapse on Elm Avenue, Murray Bridge
- a sinking houseboat at Mannum Waters Marina
- a tree which fell on a car on Queen Mary Street, Mannum

Orange-clad volunteers raced around the district for much of the weekend, chopping up fallen trees and covering roofs with tarpaulins where they were needed, assisted by their colleagues from the Metropolitan Fire Service and Country Fire Service.
A wind gust of 102 kilometres per hour was recorded by the Bureau of Meteorology at Pallamana, near Murray Bridge, just after 11pm on Saturday.
The danger hadn’t completely passed by Monday, though, when a tree was reported to have fallen across three backyards on Lachlan Avenue, Murray Bridge.
