Watch out for speed cameras in the Murraylands this week
Plus police arrest a helmetless hoon on a motorbike at Tailem Bend, charge a truck driver with speeding on the South Eastern Freeway and more.
Watch your speed on roads around the Murraylands this week, because SA Police will be watching.
For the second week in a row, officers will have speed cameras at locations around the region, including at:
- Monarto South: Old Princes Highway, South Eastern Freeway
- Murray Bridge: Adelaide Road, Hindmarsh Road, Maurice Road, Seventh Street, Swanport Road
- Murray Bridge East: Old Princes Highway
- Tailem Bend: Dukes Highway, Mallee Highway, Princes Highway, Railway Terrace
- White Hill: South Eastern Freeway
Penalties for speeding start at $180 and two demerit points.
Speeding B-double stopped on freeway
The driver of a B-double truck has had his licence suspended for 12 months after allegedly being caught speeding on the South Eastern Freeway early on Monday morning.
Police allegedly spotted the truck travelling at 130 kilometres per hour, 20km/h over the limit, at Callington around 3.30am.
The driver, a 25-year-old Parafield Gardens man, will face a dangerous driving charge in court.
Tailem Bend motorcyclist had no lights, no helmet
Police have charged a motorbike rider who they allegedly caught hooning around Tailem Bend at night with no lights or helmet on.
Officers headed out to look for the man at 1am last Thursday after receiving reports from members of the public.
The motorcyclist, a 20-year-old local man, allegedly failed to stop for police when they spotted him on Kulde Road; but they found him soon afterwards, hiding in some bushes out the front of a house.
They arrested him and charged him with failing to stop, failing to wear a helmet, and riding unlicensed, unregistered, uninsured and without a helmet.
He was also already wanted over another matter.
The officers denied him bail ahead of an appearance at Murray Bridge Magistrates Court later that day.

Police are seeking information from the public after a dirt bike was stolen at Murray Bridge North on Sunday.
The owner of the orange KTM 65 left it in a paddock on Reedy Creek Road between 2 and 2.30pm after it broke down.
When he returned, he found it had been stolen.
Whoever did it would have had to use a ute or trailer.

Tools stolen from home on George Avenue
Police are investigating the theft of various tools and bits of gardening equipment from a backyard on George Avenue, Murray Bridge on Monday night.
Items taken included everything you’d need to to a bit of whipper snipping: a Stihl FS111 whipper snipper, a red five-litre jerry can with “unleaded” written on top, a black and green box containing cutting blades, leather gloves, a helmet with a face screen, earmuffs and safety glasses.
They went missing between 4pm on Monday and 8am on Tuesday.

Truck driver failed drug test
Finally, another B-double driver has lost his licence for three months after allegedly testing positive to methamphetamine while behind the wheel at Tailem Bend.
Officers from SA Police’s heavy vehicle enforcement section stopped the 52-year-old man on the Princes Highway at 8am on Sunday.
They told him to expect a court summons.
