SA Police will be operating traffic cameras at several locations around the Murraylands this week.

  • Monarto South: Old Princes Highway, South Eastern Freeway
  • Murray Bridge: Adelaide Road, Hindmarsh Road, Maurice Road, Seventh Street, Swanport Road
  • Murray Bridge East: Old Princes Highway
  • Tailem Bend: Dukes Highway, Mallee Highway, Princes Highway, Railway Terrace
  • White Hill: South Eastern Freeway

Motorists caught speeding even a few kilometres per hour over the limit may be fined $180 and suffer the loss of two demerit points.

Chase leads police up and down the River Murray

Meanwhile, police have arrested a man and woman from the South East who allegedly led them on a high-speed chase from the Coorong to Langhorne Creek.

Just after 2pm last Thursday, officers allegedly detected a gold Holden Commodore travelling at 133 kilometres per hour in a 110 zone down on the Coorong.

They tracked it all the way up to Tailem Bend, unsuccessfully tried to slow it down with road spikes at Monteith, and kept following it over the Swanport Bridge, down through Jervois and onto Langhorne Creek Road.

By 3.30pm, the car came off a rural road at Langhorne Creek and police were able to arrest the 22-year-old man and 19-year-old woman in a paddock.

The driver allegedly tested positive to methamphetamine, was denied bail and faced Murray Bridge Magistrates Court the next day.

The woman was granted bail and will face various offences in court on March 25.

Anyone with information about the vehicle, or dash cam footage, is invited to contribute to the prosecution by contacting Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or at www.crimestopperssa.com.au.

More drug traffickers arrested after Tailem Bend bust

Police have raided two houses in Adelaide, and made two more arrests, in connection with a drug bust at Tailem Bend last month.

Officers arrested a 45-year-old Gilles Plains man and a 37-year-old Prospect woman last Wednesday, and charged them both with drug trafficking.

They allegedly found almost 22 kilograms of packaged cannabis at the woman’s house.

The arrests followed a traffic stop at Tailem Bend on January 18, at which police allegedly intercepted three kilograms of methamphetamine, plus MDMA and cannabis.

Drink and drug driving keep traffic cops busy

Finally, speaking of traffic stops, police have picked up 18 drivers in the Murraylands over the past fortnight:

  • A 53-year-old man, on Burdekin Avenue, Murray Bridge on January 27; he was reported and had his vehicle impounded for allegedly driving while suspended
  • A 45-year-old woman, on Lorikeet Avenue, Murray Bridge just after midnight on January 28; she lost her licence for six months and was reported for allegedly blowing 0.146, almost three times the legal blood alcohol limit
  • A 29-year-old Murray Bridge woman, at the corner of Eleanor Terrace and Thomas Street around 10pm last Tuesday; she was reported after allegedly failing to give way, then blowing 0.144, and also had her vehicle defected
  • A 47-year-old Murray Bridge man, on Mulgundawah Road on Saturday; he was reported for allegedly driving while disqualified
  • A 43-year-old man, on the South Eastern Freeway at Monarto around 5.30pm on Sunday; he was reported and had his licence and car taken away for allegedly speeding at 142 kilometres per hour in the 110 zone while over the legal blood alcohol limit

A drug testing operation also caught 13 drivers in Murray Bridge on January 27 and last Sunday.

Three were fined and 11 lost their licences on the spot.
