Police make $2.5 million highway drug bust
Plus another drug-related arrest in Murray Bridge, a bicycle theft and a chicken truck roll-over.
SA Police have made another major drug bust on the highway at Tailem Bend.
Officers from SAPOL’s serious and organised crime branch stopped and searched a car at 11.50am last Thursday after a tip-off from a member of the public.
They allegedly found three kilograms of methamphetamine, 4000 tablets suspected of being MDMA, 14 grams of cocaine and $35,000 cash.
The drugs would have been worth an estimated $2.5 million.
They arrested the car’s driver, a 48-year-old Sellicks Hill man, and charged him with drug trafficking and money laundering.
He was denied bail ahead of an appearance at Adelaide Magistrates Court the following day.
Police had made at least two similar busts at Tailem over the past year, having intercepted 10kg of methamphetamine last April and 5kg of cocaine in October.
Murray Bridge man arrested for drug trafficking
Meanwhile, a Murray Bridge man has been arrested after police allegedly found drugs in his car during a routine traffic stop.
Officers pulled over a Holden station wagon on Gail Crescent just after 9am last Thursday.
They allegedly found 12 grams of methamphetamine on its driver, a 47-year-old man; plus another 1.5 grams, an ice pipe and a cleaver in the car.
They then searched the man’s home, where they allegedly found drug equipment and ammunition.
Police charged him with drug trafficking and possession of drug equipment, an offensive weapon and ammunition without a licence, charges he will face at Murray Bridge Magistrates Court on May 6.

Bikes stolen on Joyce Street
Members of the public have been asked to keep their eyes out for two bicycles stolen from the front yard of a house on Joyce Street, Murray Bridge on Tuesday night.
One was a purple Norco mountain bike, pictured above, with gold and orange forks.
The other is a light blue BMX with a white front tyre.

Chicken truck rolls over
Thousands of chickens have died or been euthanised after a truck roll-over at Kepa on Friday.
The chicken truck rolled at the intersection of Kepa Road and Schulz Road, 12 kilometres east of Murray Bridge, around 5am.
Its driver managed to escape without major injury, but was taken to hospital as a precaution.
Done for driving while disqualified
Finally, traffic police have reported just one motorists in the Murray Bridge district over the weekend.
They stopped a car on Swanport Road at 8pm on Saturday and reported its driver, a 39-year-old Murray Bridge man, for allegedly driving while disqualified.
He will face the charge at Murray Bridge Magistrates Court in future.
