‘Visionary leaders’ will talk sustainability at public forum in Murray Bridge
Barry Irvin and Tim Jarvis will appear at a free forum on May 21, while Cathy Freeman and Taryn Brumfitt are coming for a schools event the following day.

Four “visionary leaders” will share their wisdom at a public forum and student summit in Murray Bridge later this month.
The Australia Day Council of SA and Murray Bridge council have joined forces for the two events on May 21 and 22.
Speaking at the Bridgeport Hotel on the Wednesday night, at a free forum titled “Our Collective Strength: Creating a Sustainable Future”, will be:
- Barry Irvin AM, executive chairman of the Bega Group and an advocate for circular economies
- Tim Jarvis AM, an environmental scientist, filmmaker and former South Australian of the Year
They will be joined by Murray Bridge council CEO Heather Barclay and Australia Day Council CEO Jan Chorley, in conversation with radio presenter Jennie Lenman.
Together they’ll cover topics including leadership, innovation, sustainability and climate change, in the hope of inspiring locals to work together and reshape the Murraylands for the better.
The following day, school students from around the region will hear from Olympic runner Cathy Freeman OAM and body-image advocate Taryn Brumfitt, both former Australians of the Year, at a second event.
Themes there will include wellbeing and the ability of students to lead change.
Murray Bridge Mayor Wayne Thorley described both events as a unique opportunity “not only to hear from national leaders, but to be part of a bigger conversation about our future”.
Ms Chorley described them as “unmissable events that promise to leave a lasting impact”.
Light refreshments will be provided at the evening forum on the 21st, and bookings are essential.
