Tailem Bend Show

The first show of the Tailem Bend Agricultural and Horticultural Society was held on the racecourse on Saturday, when the entries in most sections were much greater than expected, 179 being received for the 20 horse events.

Owing to a storm in the morning, the largest marquee was so badly damaged it could not be used, and so all the exhibits had to be placed in the totalisator building.

Fortunately the weather improved, and in consequence there was a good attendence.

The town band – conducted by Mr E. Shaw – rendered selections, and a representative of Allan’s Limited supplied music in the refreshment marquee.

Bridge workers don’t

Workers on the bridge ceased work on Wednesday and held a meeting at which the press was refused admittance.

From reliable sources it was ascertained that the men’s chief grievance was in connection with the water supply for drinking purposes.

This is contained in a 400-gallon tank not fitted with a tap, and men have to dip their pannikins and other utensils in, which the men claim is not in the interests of health.

It is also stated that horses have been watered at this tank.

Murray Bridge Football Association

A football match, promoted by the railway members of the association, was played on Saturday last in aid of the recreation ground, and although the fixture was fairly well known to most people, the attendance was probably the poorest of the whole season.

The hope of the players was that something in the nature of a ÂŁ20 gate would be the result, so that a tidy sum might be handed over towards the building of a much-needed grandstand.

Prior to the match referred to, a number of men from the new bridge construction department tried conclusions with a team from the association, as it is possible a team from the new bridge may link up with the association next year.
