Lutheran Zion Church, Monarto: Laying foundation stone
The foundation stone of the Lutheran Zion Church, Monarto, was laid on Sunday, February 15, by the pastor of the congregation, Reverend J.F. Hansen, assisted by Pastor J. Homann of Ambleside.
Not only members of the congregation, but many friends from the surrounding district, including Clem Collins, MP, assembled to witness the memorable act.
The foundation stone is of Italian marble, purchased from Schubert and Son, Flinders Street, Adelaide.
Members of the building committee are Mr A. Braendler, chairman, Mr C.F. Altmann, secretary and treasurer, Mr J. Hartmann, Mr A. Schenscher, Mr H.H. Hein and Mr G. Kuchel.
Coursing
The committee and members of the recently formed Murray Bridge Coursing Club are an enthusiastic body of men, and have lost no time in preparing the ground for the sport.
During the last weekend a busy bee of some 20 members attended at the ground and did a lot of useful work, including the sinking of post holes and the erection of posts, almost embracing three parts of the enclosure.
A small secretary’s office was also erected, and provision made for the escapes and getaways.
It is confidently expected to have a grand opening meeting early in July.
Workers’ Educational Association
Mr G. McRitchie, general secretary to the Workers’ Educational Association of South Australia, writes: “Mr Garnett informs me that he secured a preliminary enrolment of 110 intending students for the class to be formed in Murray Bridge.”
“It has been arranged to hold an inaugural meeting in the institute hall on Monday, March 2.
“Mr Garnett proposes to give a special lecture after the business meeting which should occupy a few minutes only, on the situation in China: is there a real yellow peril?
“Mr Garnett has visited China and so is conversant with the situation there.”
