NAIDOC Week begins this Sunday: an invitation to reflect on the contribution Indigenous Australians have made and continue to make to our nation.

As ever, it will be celebrated all over Ngarrindjeri country, including with the traditional walk across the old Murray Bridge and awards ceremony on Monday morning.

There will be family fun from Mannum all the way down to Meningie, too – scroll down to see what is happening in your neck of the woods.

Friday 3rd 🌦️ 16°

Mini Roos ball: 6-8.30pm at Mannum Football Club. It's non-stop fun for the junior Roos, aged 5-17. Lock-in event, children will be signed in on arrival and out on departure. River Murray football and netball: Mallee Districts v Jervois at Karoonda Memorial Oval; Southern Mallee v Coorong at Lameroo Sports Club; Tailem Bend v Mypolonga at Jaensch Park, Tailem Bend; Ramblers v Imperials at Le Messurier Oval, Murray Bridge. A grade football 2.30pm, A grade netball 1.50pm/3.10pm.

SA Motorcycle Road Racing Championships: From 9am at the Bend Motorsport Park, Tailem Bend. Head to the Bend for round two of the state series. Featuring a range of bike classes including superbikes, supersport, limited, production 300 and juniors. A range of support classes from the BEARS to sidecars will also be offered across the season. Ancient Animals: July 4-19 at Monarto Safari Park. Journey back millions of years these school holidays and discover the ancient animals that inspired some of Monarto Safari Park’s incredible wildlife. Complete a prehistoric scavenger quest, enjoy dinosaur and Ice Age-themed activities, and uncover the incredible story of evolution on a wild adventure for the whole family. Kids DIY – NAIDOC crafts: 10-10.45am, 11-11.45am and 12.30-1.15pm at Bunnings Murray Bridge. Children will get hands-on creating NAIDOC crafts, such as wombat wall hangings, dot painting crafts and scratch art, all while learning basic DIY skills with our team. Trades race day: Gates 11am, first race 11.37am at Murray Bridge Racing Club. Enjoy a day out at South Australia's premier regional racetrack. Admission: $22.07 from moshtix.com.au.

Mannum Markets: 9am-2pm at Arnold Park, Mannum. From local products and handmade items to gifts and goodies, there will be more than 30 stalls to explore. Unlimited Feet open dance competition: 10am-3pm at 38 Adelaide Road, Murray Bridge. Participants can compete in solos, duets, and small groups with the opportunity to enter multiple routines across a variety of styles. NAIDOC Week bridge walk and awards: From 9.30am on the east side of the old Murray Bridge, walking to the local government centre. The awards ceremony will start at 10am with a flag raising and followed by morning tea and activities. Come and join us as we celebrate 50 years of NAIDOC Week and honour the strength, resilience, and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. More information: 1800 023 846.

Coffee with a Cop with Jeff the Road Safety Dog: 10.30-11.30am at Murray Bridge Marketplace. Bring the kids along for a chance to meet local police, ask questions and get to know them in a relaxed, informal setting. There’ll be a special visit from Jeff the Road Safety Dog, helping kids learn about staying safe on the roads, plus of course a complimentary coffee for adults and hot chocolate or milkshakes for the little ones.
