There’ll be high culture a-plenty in the Murraylands this week: horse racing, art and classical music.

For a start, Murray Bridge’s biggest annual horse race – the Gold Cup – will be run again at 4.30pm this Friday.

It may have been surpassed in prize money by the Magic Millions, but the cup still has a certain allure.

Victorian group one race winner Begood Toya Mother is one of the horses who will take on a big local contingent, including three runners from John Hickmott and Carrina Riggs, two from Mick Huxtable, Nicole Irwin’s Highly Decorated, Rob Wilkinson’s Master Chum and Stuart Padman’s Debt Collector.

On Sunday, an exhibition opening at Murray Bridge Regional Gallery will transport visitors to the fjords of Norway, courtesy of Adelaide Hills artist Alison Brown.

Then, next Wednesday, a big coup: members of the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra will perform an hour-long concert at Tailem Bend community centre as part of a series of October performances around South Australia.

It might be time to dust off the glad rags.
