A free eight-week conversation series on getting older, Getting Older – Let’s Talk About It, will begin this Tuesday at the Tailem Bend Community Centre.

Zest Creative will facilitate different topics to give you an opportunity to exchange your views and insights on growing older with meaning and passion.

Some of the topics to be explored are home, belonging and community, the reality of ageing, money matters, living with meaning and purpose and the importance of social connection.

But if you’re not quite in that age bracket yet, there are plenty of activities on over the final weekend of the school holidays – read on below.

Family film at the library – Lyle, Lyle Crocodile: 10am and 2pm at the Murray Bridge Library. Looking to relax in the school holidays with a fun flick? Who said that you should never smile at a crocodile? For more information, phone the library on 8539 1175 or email library@murraybridge.sa.gov.au.

Quilt exhibition: 10am–4pm (today and Saturday) at the John Dohler Hall, 31 Swanport Road, Murray Bridge. This quilt exhibition from the Bridge Patches and Quilters is to raise money for a Sozo machine at the Country Health Connect centre. So, see some quilts and support a worthy cause. There’ll also be morning and afternoon tea and a light lunch available, along with a quilt shop and a trading table with handmade goodies. Cost: $5 admission. Equipment petting zoo: 11am–2pm at the Station, 3–5 Railway Terrace, Murray Bridge. In this free, all-ages event, you’re invited to explore the enchanting world of keyboards and piano sounds, explore drums and percussion instruments in the Noise Room or enter the DJ-ing room and experience the thrill of mixing and blending music. Kalette in-store sampling: 1pm–4pm at Farm Fresh Market, 185 Adelaide Road, Murray Bridge. What’s a kalette, you ask? It’s a brand-new vegetable, combining the best flavours of Brussels sprouts and kale. If you’re curious, pop in for a free in-store sample. For more information, phone 8531 2888.

CFS Bushfire Blitz: 6pm at the Ettrick Fire Station, 15508 Karoonda Highway, Ettrick. Come to an informative and interactive 45-minute presentation that focuses on your area’s bushfire risk; bushfire behaviour; how to protect your house and property; personal safety; and bushfire survival planning. Tailem Bend market: From 9am (sellers from 8am to 2pm) at Saint Luke’s Church, Station Drive, Tailem Bend. If you’re into markets, then check out plants, produce, preserves, handicraft, sweets, bric-a-brac, CDs, DVDs, tools, coffee and cake, a sausage sizzle and more. This eight-week conversation series, presented by Zest Creative, provides an opportunity to share with and learn from others about what it takes to succesfully grow older. Create either a mat or basket using raffia and fabric. Some fabric will be supplied, but if you have a specific colour or pattern, please bring it along. You may also want to bring some farbric you treasure (your partner’s clothes etc.) to make a memory mat. All other materials will be provided. Cost: $30.
