Tailem Bend will host national-level drag racing from 2023
The Bend Motorsport Park will host a round of the Australian Top Fuel Championship next March, organisers have confirmed.
Tailem Bend will host a national-level drag racing event from 2023, the organisers of the Australian Top Fuel Championship have announced.
The new drag strip being built at the Bend Motorsport Park will be the venue for round five of next summer’s national championship.
As well as top fuelers, an invite will be extended to other professional drag racing categories, including top bikes, door slammers, pro mods, pro stocks and pro alcohol.
Racing is scheduled for March 11 and 12.
The venue’s managing director, Sam Shahin, said a world-class drag racing facility had always been part of his vision for a world-class motor sport park.
“It follows that the Bend will be associated (with), and will be host to, the spectrum of drag racing from grassroots participation all the way to the peak spectacle that is top fuel,” he said.
“Construction is on track for completion by the end of 2022.
“We cannot wait to embrace the drag racing community in the same way that we have embraced every other discipline of motor sport at the Bend.”
Rounds will also be held in Alice Springs, Perth, Sydney and Darwin; and at Heathcote, Victoria and Willowbank, Queensland.
All championship rounds will be broadcast live on 7 Plus and recapped with analysis on 7 Mate.
Tailem Bend last hosted high-level drag racing in 1979, back in the venue’s days at River View Raceway.
