Tailem Bend hospital staff celebrate milestones
Staff who have collectively worked over 200 years at the hospital have been celebrated at a gala morning tea

The Riverland Mallee Coorong Local Health Network has hosted a gala morning tea to award long-serving staff for their significant years of service.
Among the recipients were Tony Capes and nurse Margaret Fabbian, both of whom have worked at Tailem Bend for over 50 years.
Mr Capes has worked as a maintenance officer at the Tailem Bend Hospital since August 1975.
“Some of the friendships I’ve made are lifelong and I’ve enjoyed working with the maintenance team over the past five decades,” he said.
Ms Fabbian’s career as a nurse began in 1970 at the Pinnaroo Hospital, and in 1975 she joined the team at Tailem Bend.
“I have enjoyed working in the local community and receiving a smile and a thank you for helping people at their most vulnerable,” she said.
Executive Director of Nursing Cindy Hein said she was pleased to be able to organise an event to give recognition to the deserving staff members.
“Their understanding and knowledge are vital to ensure our values have continued being passed onto generations of workers,” she said.
Other recipients included:
- Diedre Frost, enrolled nurse for 30 years
- Sharyn Anderson, administration Officer for 25 years
- Amanda Martin, registered nurse for 25 years
- Tanya McInally, hotel services assistant for 20 years
- Wendy Baker, enrolled nurse for 5 years
Riverland Mallee Coorong Local Health Network chief executive officer Wayne Champion offered his congratulations to the recipients.
“Their passion and commitment to making this hospital as good as it can be is truly outstanding and I’m pleased they’ve been honoured,” he said.
“We are privileged that these staff members have stayed with us for decades and have passed their experience on to hundreds of nurses, doctors and administrators.”
