Sports round-up: Perfect score gives win to Greg Traeger
Murray Bridge Rifle Club members have contested their latest shoot on a hot day.
Fourteen members have turned out on a warm, sunny day to contest stage 16 of the Murray Bridge Rifle Club Championship at the Deed Range this past Saturday, joined by four visitors who came out to try their hand at the sport.
The conditions were mediated somewhat by a left wind that decreased in strength over the afternoon but increased in difficulty, even changing direction on occasion.
Shooters were mostly up for the challenge, however, with several good scores being recorded.
None was more impressive than Greg Traeger, who scored a perfect score with a double possible to claim the off rifle award in target rifle with 100.08.
However, he was pipped at the post in the handicap prize by his daughter Jasamine, whose 97.08 gave her a handicap score of 113.1, enough to pass her dad’s 111.4.
The stand-out amongst the F-class shooters was David McDonald, who managed to score 112.06 in F-standard, equalling the top F-open shooter for the day, Mark Nesti, and easily claiming his first handicap win since switching to F-class with a score of 130.0.
Peter Casley also had a great day at the office, scoring 112.03 as well and only missing out on the off-rifle win by centres.
In an occurrence most shooters would love to be more common, no-one won the dreaded Magpie Award for shooting the most threes.
This meant that captain Greg Traeger got to spin the lucky wheel himself, and while the first spin prize of $50 was not claimed, Traeger was able to land the wheel on 100 on the second spin, meaning he was able to claim just over $30 in prize money, to the vocal but light-hearted protests of his club mates.
The club was scheduled to shoot against Kapunda on Saturday but members were awaiting details of how South Australia’s new COVID restrictions would affect those plans.
