The weekend’s Murray Bridge rifle club shoot from 800 metres proved to be an exciting contest despite the cold weather.

Fortunately, the rain held off, allowing competitors to focus on their performance, as the wind, primarily coming from the left, added an extra challenge as it varied throughout the day.

On the day, Target Rifle (TR) competitors excelled, with Andrew Heard and Robert Paech both achieving possibles — a perfect score in a round.

Among them, Rob Paech stood out with an impressive 50.07, claiming the best score of the day.

This exceptional performance contributed to his total score of 99.10 and earned him the title of top-off-rifle in TR.

Meanwhile, David McDonald led the pack in the F-Class division, delivering consistent results with two 57s.

His final score of 114.09 secured his position as the top F-Class shooter for the day.

This weekend’s shoot also marked the competition for the Patron’s Trophy, awarded to the shooter with the best percentage of their handicap.

The contest was remarkably close, with Greg Traeger narrowly beating Robert Paech by a mere 0.01 percent to claim the prestigious prize.

Next weekend, the club’s final championship round will be held at 400 metres.

With only one point separating the top two competitors in the TR Championship, the stakes are high, and the competition promises to be fierce.

Forgotten Poharama claims rare trifecta

In a remarkable achievement last Saturday 20-something-year-old Brayden Poharama not only won the day's Stroke competition but also both the Pro comp and Yabby to overload his club playing account with winnings.

The forgotten brother of recent club D grade championship winner Mikara Poharama (who he oh so narrowly lost to in the play off series) gained vengeance of sorts with his great round of nett 66 in bitterly cold and occasionally showery conditions.

Ripping off a super back nine of nett 27 which included the day's closest tee shot on the difficult par three 14th hole to get him the Yabby, Brayden could do no wrong and cashed in accordingly.

Family rivalry is keen to say the least with the two brothers often joining father Fabian, an A grade golfer, for their competition rounds.

It was success all round on this occasion with Mikara continuing his good form with a runner's up placing in the C grade with a fine nett 71.

Fabian matched this score in leading in the day's placegetters ball rundown; well done guys and keep the ball rolling.

Other highlights on a tricky day were recent club champion runner up Keith Durham's 74 off the stick to give him the best gross score on the day and a win in the A grade.

Pity about those few missed short putts but all players could probably claim the same tale of woe.

Patrick Secker raised his bat (scoring a century of shots) in not his best day on course.

But he almost aced the par three 11th hole unluckily lipping out and being forced to sink a two inch putt for birdie instead! Arrrggghh!!!

Back to a Stableford competition this Saturday with all handicap golfers welcome to try their luck.
