What a day for Hillbillies United.
The inaugural Walking Football Tournament at the SA Masters Games was a fantastic success, bringing together players from across South Australia for a memorable day of fun, fitness, friendship, and community spirit in Port Elliot.
With three teams competing in a friendly and inclusive atmosphere, the event showcased the continued growth of walking football across the state.
Special congratulations go to the winners, Hillbillies United, a combined team from Tailem Bend and Mount Barker, who claimed the gold following a thrilling final that reportedly went all the way to penalties.
Players demonstrated excellent sportsmanship, teamwork, and enthusiasm throughout the day, highlighting why walking football is becoming increasingly popular among older adults looking to stay active and socially connected.
Walking football is held on Monday mornings at the Tailem Bend Primary School gym.

Neil Villanueava sets national record in first powerlifting competition
Neil Villanueva has taken part in his first ever powerlifting competition over the weekend and broke three CAPO Australian National Powerlifting records for his age group and weight class.
He competed in the 90kg weight class in the 55-59 age group and had only been training for 11 weeks.
His combined total for squat, bench and deadlift was 335kg, breaking the previous record of 325kg.

Dunker and Waters strike winning ASBK blows at the Bend
Cameron Dunker and Josh Walters have snared race wins during an electrifying round three of the 2026 Australian Superbike Championship at the Bend.
After six previous podiums in the superbike class, gifted 18-year-old Dunker finally reached the summit after victory in race one, while defending champion Waters rebounded superbly from a disappointing opener to score a runaway win in the second 11-lapper.

Cohen Naughton's star is on the rise
Slightly built teenager Cohen Naughton has announced his arrival in the big time with an ultra impressive win in Saturday's stroke competition at Murray Bridge Golf Club.
Shooting a brilliant four under his handicap nett 66 on a cool showery old day, he made light work of the 89-strong field, who found the going tough with little run on offer and slick greens to boot.
Real championship course conditions were produced by ground staff and little wonder โ it was the first round of the annual club championships.
The sweet-hitting young ball striker is blessed with confident fluent chipping when near the green and he is now into a single figure handicap with surely further successes to come.
Definitely a player to watch in the future โ well done Cohen.
It was a day where passing visitors took the honours in both the A and B grades.
Bunbury GC holidaymaker Pat Anderson found the local circuit to his liking in shooting a nett 69 to claim the top division, while namesake Pat Bush whipped over from Blackwood GC to avoid their cored greens and take our B grade winnings with a 70.
Not an easy thing to do coming to a foreign course and playing well so good effort chaps.
Club president Glenn Bargeus is an imposing figure and not lacking in confidence either.
Known for teaming up with classy A grader Matt Kowald and visiting other clubs to win all of their two-person Ambrose events, the Barge thought it was time to let the world know that he can play okay on his own as well.
A well crafted nett 69 edged him past C grade club champion Deane Pannell on a countback to get his name up in lights as C grade winner.
Golf shop staff heaved a sigh of relief when the computer gave the countback to the Barge, fearing for their jobs if it had gone the other way.
Tony Carter is a very good A grader but, apparently, it's just all luck if you ask him.
Talent or skill never entered the equation.
Just good fortune.
Well, more incredible luck struck him on the par five eighth hole when his ball just happened to drop into the hole after only three shots to give him an eagle and a bit of reward from the eagles nest.
Stroke days are tough on the mind โ just ask Brett Altschwager.
The five handicapper was travelling smoothly upon reaching the seventh tee.
Eleven strokes later, his round destroyed, he made it to the eighth tee.
It will be round two of the club championships this Saturday and another stroke round for everyone to negotiate.
