Fifty hardy souls braved Saturday's scorching weather under the club's hot weather policy, forcing everyone to tee off early, and it was particularly searing in the Brett Altschwager group.

After warming up midweek with an excellent 38 points, the young committee-man went next level on the weekend with an even par 70 off the stick and 42 points off his six handicap to blow the field away.

A lazy four birdies on the back nine stunned all and sundry as this hot hot hot golfer kept hitting greens and sinking putts.

Super stuff Brett – a very popular win.

Swirling hot northerly winds weren't making life overly easy for the golfers either but the laconic Matt Kowald wasn't fazed.

Spurred on by the exploits of the all-conquering Altschwager in his group, he churned out a more than handy 39-point round off his five handicap to be the days runner up.

Another A-grader, Fabian Poharama, came in third with an equally impressive 39 Stableford points.

As the mercury edged into the low 40s by near finishing time for the later starters, there were still very good scores being submitted.

Ultra modest club president Tony Carter blasted out another great 39 points, while super-talented junior Oakley Edwards shot 38 as he roared into single-figure handicap territory for his next round.

Michael Pitcher has snuck out to a gentleman's handicap by his standards and he said enough is enough and also returned 38 points.

Comeback kid Wayne Duthie was also keen to talk about his round of 37 points as he continued his good form since recovering from several operations last year.

Low key A-grader Jason Bormann would have gone home with mixed feelings.

A stunning 23-point front nine had him in dreamland, but he couldn't maintain the rage down the back, finishing with a total of "just" 37 points.

His mood would have been tempered somewhat, though, when he found out that he had won the pro comp for his brilliant front nine.

The yabby – a separate nearest-the-pin prize on a designated hole – is getting to simply be a retirement benefit for par three specialist Barry Preston, who just keeps winning it.

He is almost unbeatable when it's on the 11th, as it was again on Saturday.

Yes, Preston is a single-figure golfer but the competition is fierce and he gets closest just so many times it's not funny.

To top off the exotic prizes, Michael Pitcher eagled the par five 12th and club champ Aaron Zrim, first up at golf for some time, holed out in three on the par five eighth to each claim a half-share of a moderately filled eagle's nest.
