Two men's Stableford competitions have been held at the Murray Bridge Golf club over the past week.

Promising young golfer Jed Nagel took out last Saturday's Stableford competition with a fine 41 point score in ideal golfing conditions.

It was good to see another different winner come to the fore.

Saturday grade winners included Keith Durham on 39 points in the A grade, B-grader Josh McPhee on 40 points and C-grader Bryan Smith on 38.

Looking through the results, a lot of familiar names were there, showing how consistently they are playing.

The Wednesday competition was taken out by Jeff Morgan on 41 points, with Greg Lannan a further two points back.

Alois Kniebeiss finished third on 38 points with four golfers tied on 36 and 3 tied on 35.

History will be made this weekend when the two new holes will be played for the first time in the two-person Ambrose Christmas "greenkeeper's revenge" day.

The feedback from the 100-plus expected field will be most interesting.

Murray Bridge and Karoonda have solid wins in the Lower Murray Bowling Association

Murray Bridge has finished strongly to overwhelm Jervois by 11 shots, two rinks up, and consign Jervois to a third successive loss at Murray Bridge.

Ben Traeger, Helen Lindner, Brian Traeger and Gerry Penta made a good start against Tim Hicks, Kevin Spinks, Derek Vanderzon and Neil Morris, winning the first three ends to be up 5-0.

Hicks gradually worked back into the contest, momentarily taking the lead 11-10 after 13 ends, but a five to Traeger immediately restored his lead.

A dominant display by Lindner and some great saves by Traeger led them to prevail 21-15.

Bruce Attrill, Charlie DiSanto, Mike Ferris and Brian Leckie were slow starters against Shawn Hicks, Graham Fromm, Bruce Smith and Shane Fromm, conceding six of the first seven ends to trail 6-1.

Fortunately they had only conceded singles, and by the break had recovered to lead by a shot.

Hicks regained the lead, but Attrill fared far better over the latter stages to get home comfortably, 18-12.

Graeme Herbert, Jeremy Scannell, Denis Hicks and Graham Schenke just held off a strong finish by Darren McIntosh, Tony Trewren, a debuting Troy Penhall and Paul Smart to win 19-18.

Herbert was up 8-0 after three ends, and had a commanding 11-shot lead after 14 ends.

McIntosh finished strongly, winning six of the last seven ends, and lost a close measure for a fourth shot on the final end which would have delivered a tie.

Karoonda at home were too strong for RSL, winning on all rinks in a 69-42 result.

Josh Porker, Malcolm Waechter, Erin O'Malley and John Wagner capitalised on a six on the second end to power to a 27-11 win over Jason Sipos, David Thiele, Kerri Bolt and Garry Daniel.

Porker was out to a 17-4 lead by the break and never in trouble.

A pair of late twos to Sipos made the end score a little more respectable.

The other two rinks were far more competitive, but in both instances Karoonda finished stronger to take the points.

After 17 ends only one shot separated Rowan Zadow, Len Symonds, Jayden Turner and Gary Zadow against Karen Kneebone, Allan Wooldridge, Dale Neale and Cooper Galbraith, but successive fours to Zadow quickly killed off what had been a tight and low-scoring contest, with Zadow prevailing 21-13.

Ian Symonds, Gary Mason, Malcolm McKenzie and Bill Cornish trailed throughout against Noel Kneebone, Ann-Marie Kuchel, James Galbraith and David Newell before levelling the scores on the 20th end, and finishing with a three to take a 21-18 win.

Symonds had trailed by nine shots before a pair of threes just before the break got their score moving.

Six shots to zero over the last three ends got his rink home.
