Also, the Jervois Bluds welcomed new club Mallee Districts to the RMFL with a traditional gift that Ray and Owen Love arranged, designed and painted. Good work, Bluds!

Ireland reigns in Speedway’s final night of season

Brett Ireland won the crown in the Wingless Sprints 30-lap feature of Murray Bridge Speedway’s final race night of the season, which featured Round 9 of the Ausloans Finance Strathalbyn Track Championship.

Anthony Tapley led early on ahead of Jack McCarthy, with the pair opening up a fair gap over the rest of the field.

The only stoppage of the event occurred on Lap 8, with Mitchell Rigney spinning to a stop in the back straight.

McCarthy continued to pressure Tapley on the restart before suddenly slowing and retiring to the infield, which elevated Brett Ireland up into second.

With the front-runners then encountering lapped traffic, Tapley got caught behind one of the back-markers, enabling Ireland to swoop into the top spot.

Ireland then made a smooth run until the end, winning by over four seconds ahead of Tapley and Nate Trewin in third.

Magpie-free day at Murray Bridge Rifle Club

Light winds that varied early before dissipating later in the afternoon made for near-perfect conditions at the Deed Range in Monarto for the 26th round of the Murray Bridge Rifle Club Championship.

Sunny skies meant that F-Class shooters had some sighting issues due to mirage, but overall, a high standard was shot.

A class ahead of everyone on the day, however, was Andrew Heard, who shot a magnificent double possible of 50.08 and 50.05 for the top TR score so far this season of 100.13.

Heard easily claimed the off-rifle and the handicap win in TR for the day.

F-Class had some good scores as well, including a possible of 60.04 in the second round for John Cranwell to give him the off-rifle win in F-Open with a score of 115.09.

Ian Taylor did very well in the second round also, with a 59.05 to finish on 114.07 and claim the F-Standard win and the F-Class handicap trophy for the day.

In a testament to the favourable conditions, there were no Magpies shot for the day.

But another standout was from visitor Terry Trigg, who recorded the highest F-Class score of the day with a pair of 59s for 118.07 shooting F-Standard.

Next week, competition continues at the first of a two-week stint at 600 metres.
