Sports reports: Destroying takes out the 2026 Murray Bridge Cup
Plus the latest in shooting, greyhound racing, basketball, golf and more.
This story includes contributions from Heather Richards, Daniel Irvine and Michael Potts.
While Destroying claimed the spotlight in the Murray Bridge Cup final, the supporting program has produced a quality afternoon of racing with several standout performances across the staying, sprint and grade events under overcast conditions at Murray Bridge Greyhound Racing Club.
One of the more competitive finishes of Sunday afternoon came in race three, where Terrific Lucy capitalised on the rails draw to defeat Chaotic Boy and favourite Canya Feel It in 22.76.
The middle-distance performers then took centre stage with Conqueror justifying favouritism in race five.

Murray Bridge contingent brings home medals from Riverland tennis competition
Several local tennis players have made their usual pilgrimage to the Riverland for an annual three-day teams event.
The Saturday matches were mostly washed out and called off due to the bad weather, but Sunday saw the sun and some great results.
Local players Theo Weinmann and Jack Redden played in the 80-plus age group, and with lower numbers still entering in this age group, they had to play against 70-plus teams.
The Bridge Bimbos – Elaine Fitzgerald, Angela McHugh, Lorraine Vickers, Lorraine Graetz, Jeanne Weinmann and Kathy Pfeiffer – finished sixth out of seven teams.
Wanderers – Allen Smith, Alan Spry, Ron Cameron, Alan Walsh, John Owens and Ken O’Dea – took out the 70-plus age group for the fourth year in a row.
H Bombers took second spot in the 50-plus group, with all but one member eligible to play in the 60-plus competition.
Congratulations to Anne Hein, Cathryn Dawes, Heather Richards, Cindy Hein, Barb Williams, Christine Tinney.
Matches are played annually on the lawn courts of Loxton, Berri, Barmera and Renmark with everyone attending have a great time.

Rifle Club championship belongs to the Conlons
It was the Conlons’ day at the Deed Range at Monarto on Saturday as the Murray
Bridge Rifle Club shot the 30th round of the club championship from 600 metres.
On a great day for shooting, light winds, overcast but no rain, both Adrian and Karen Conlon shot perfect possibles of 60.10 in their second rounds, an amazing
achievement at any time.
To make the day even better, Adrian’s second round was following a 60.06 in his first round, to give him a final score of 120.16 for the day.
This was easily the top-off rifle score for the day, a point ahead of wife Karen who finished on 119.17.
Adrian claimed the F-open win, as well as the F-class handicap win.
John Cranwell also shot a 60.04 in his second round, but had too much ground to try and make up after his first-round 55.
In F-standard, newcomers Katrina Davis and Brett Larwood both did well, with
Davis’ 109.02 giving her top-off rifle in the grade and a second place in the
handicap, while Larwood’s 105.05 was enough to finish third in the handicap award.
In target rifle, possibles were shot in the second round by both Greg Traeger and
Robert Paech, but it was Paech’s first-round 48 that set him ahead, winning off-rifle by a point as well as claiming a victory in the handicap for the day.
Nicole Edwards was the lone FTR shooter on the day, scoring a respectable 110.07.
This week the club will shoot the annual three-range shoot, comprised of three rounds of seven shots from 400, 500 and 700m.

Junior Durham tops off great day for family
Often overshadowed by his quality A-grader dad Keith, Isaiah Durham has made it a really good day for the family when he won a Stableford competition at Murray Bridge Golf Club on Saturday with a brilliant 40-point score.
With dad not long after Isaiah's great round then barging his way into the club championships playoff final this weekend, it would have been all smiles around the family dinner table that night.
A punishing hitter of the ball but not always in the intended direction, it was down the middle for most of the day this time for junior as he cashed in accordingly.
Two points adrift was steady A-grader Lucas Merchant, with 38 points in the runner-up position; while Fabian Poharama came in third for the day with a satisfying 37-point effort.
Cohen Naughton snapped up the yabby with a delightful strike on the awkward par three 14th while Durham junior lined his pockets even further when he edged out a no doubt distraught Tom Haig on a countback to win the best back nine pro comp with 21 points.
Making it a trifecta as well, Isaiah also drove the par four 15th and drained his putt for eagle and a rare five point collect, but was disappointed to later learn that Aaron Harding and Aidan Elliott had also registered eagles to therefore ensure there was a three-way split of the measly nest.
