Members and friends of the University of the Third Age have celebrated the 20th anniversary of its arrival in the Murraylands at a milestone event at Murray Bridge Performing Arts and Function Centre.
MC Tom Haig and president Helen Elix welcomed 170 guests to the event, which featured guest speakers, musical entertainment, certificates of appreciation, life memberships and the announcement of a new patron to succeed the late Allan Arbon OAM: Murray Bridge News’ own Peri Strathearn.

Celebrating are Wendy Osborne; Pam Luke; Lynton Hall; Ruth Hall; Sue Pennington and Lynette Doecke; and Lee Lyons and Gen Miell. Photos: Glenn Power.
The event opened with a performance by acclaimed harpist and soprano Emma Horwood and continued with speeches by MPs Tony Pasin and Adrian Pederick, Ms Elix, Murray Bridge Mayor Wayne Thorley and state U3A president Derek Bowman, which were followed by more entertainment from U3A Vocalise and the U3A Bridge Strummers.
Certificates of appreciation were presented to jill-of-all-trades Jean Filmer and flower arranger Pam Doecke, and life memberships to Pat Nuske, Bob England and Ms Elix.
Speakers also thanked all U3A members past and present, and community connections, for developing strong foundations that would enable learning and friendships to continue in the future.
