Fireworks have lit up the sky above Murray Bridge’s riverfront for a mid-winter “celebration of strength and unity”.
The River Murray Glows festival was a replacement for the community’s cancelled New Year’s Eve celebration, but it was also an excuse for people to get out and about on a chilly winter weekend – and they did, in their hundreds.
Murray Bridge News was there on Saturday night as crowds visited the city’s art gallery, then flocked to Wharf Hill for a light show and food trucks before the fireworks show at Sturt Reserve.
The festival might not be a one-off, either, if Mayor Wayne Thorley has anything to say about it.
“It was great for local business – you had a job to buy a decent meal and sit down and eat it,” he said at a council meeting on Monday night.
“It’s something for us to think about for next winter.”
